Meet Erica
Erica Cañas earned her Juris Doctorate from Florida International University College of Law in 2007, and is a member of the Florida Bar. Ms. Cañas’ practice areas include civil and commercial litigation, copyright and trademark law, consumer protection law, and art law.
Prior to becoming of counsel to Fitzgerald & Isaacson, LLP in 2011, Ms. Cañas handled a variety of matters as an associate attorney including Fair Debt Collection Practices Act violations, international commercial disputes, business contract disputes, non-compete agreements, copyright and trademark registrations, and licensing agreements.
As a law student, Ms. Cañas was a member of the Board of Advocates, and the Best Brief Award Winner for the St. Thomas Inter-Cultrual Human Rights Moot Court Competition. Ms. Cañas was also a certified legal intern for the Office of the Public Defender, Miami-Dade County, Florida, and for the Carlos J. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic at FIU College of Law. Additional law school activities included serving as the President of the Human Rights and Environmental Law Society, and as an international law research assistant. Ms. Cañas earned a B.S., cum laude, in International Relations, with a Minor in Psychology, from Florida International University.
In addition to all Florida State Courts, Ms. Cañas is admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the Florida Southern District Bankruptcy Court. She is a member of the Dade County Bar Young Lawyers Division, the Young Lawyers Division School Board Section, and the Centennial Celebration Committee.
Ms. Cañas is involved with the Miami arts’ community and serves as a co-chair to the Miami Art Museum’s Contemporaries’ Committee. She is also a Member of the Miami Art Museum’s Young Collector’s Council, a board member of the South Florida Composer’s Alliance, and serves as a volunteer lawyer for LegalArt.
